Actor Glen Powell recently opened up about the intense and sometimes nerve-wracking experiences he faced while filming the highly anticipated action-thriller The Running Man. Speaking at New York Comic Con, Powell described the production as “non-stop” and “bad ass,” highlighting the extreme stunts and chaotic sequences that pushed him to his limits.
Explosions, Falls, and Unexpected Hazards
Powell revealed several moments that could only be described as terrifying. In one incident, a fire extinguisher detonated prematurely, while in another, he fell down the side of a building due to an early cable release. These mishaps led to genuine reactions being captured on film, adding realism to the action scenes.
He explained, “You never want to be too surefooted on a set,” embracing the chaos and unpredictability as part of the filmmaking experience.
Freezing Conditions in Bulgaria
Filming in Bulgaria during February added to the challenges. Powell described performing a “towel scene” in freezing temperatures, a stark contrast to the originally intended summer shoot. Despite the cold, he noted that such conditions enhanced the film’s intense atmosphere.
Thriving Amidst Chaos
Despite the dangers and mishaps, Powell admitted he thrives in high-pressure, chaotic environments, which bring out authentic reactions that enhance his performance. The challenging conditions also fostered strong camaraderie among the cast, particularly with co-stars Josh Brolin and Colman Domingo.
About The Running Man
Directed by Edgar Wright and co-written with Michael Bacall, The Running Man is a reimagining of Stephen King’s 1982 novel, previously adapted in 1987. The story follows a man forced to compete in a deadly game show where contestants are hunted for sport.
Powell takes on the role of Ben Richards, a character famously portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original film. The movie is set to hit theaters on November 14, 2025, promising high-octane action, thrilling stunts, and authentic performances from the cast.
