Kate Winslet has shared one of the most memorable — and unintentionally hilarious — moments of her early career: the time she met Prince Charles (now King Charles III) while wearing a completely see-through outfit.
During a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Winslet described the incident, which took place in 1996 at the London premiere of Sense and Sensibility. At the time, Winslet was just 20 years old and rising to fame, unaware that her fashion choice for the night would nearly lead to a royal wardrobe disaster.
A Transparent Outfit and a Sudden Realization
Winslet recalled arriving at the event in a black lace, sheer catsuit, layered only over matching boy shorts. She admitted she didn’t anticipate having to speak directly with Prince Charles and suddenly panicked as he approached her in the receiving line.
The actress said she realized in an instant just how revealing her outfit truly was, joking that only one thing went through her head as Charles moved closer:
“Nipples! Nipples! Nipples! Oh my God!”
Fortunately, someone backstage shouted “Coat!” just in time. Winslet grabbed her coat and wrapped it around herself moments before shaking hands with the future king — narrowly avoiding an awkward and overly memorable introduction.
