The New Faces of Hogwarts: Meet the Cast of HBO's Harry Potter Reboot

After much anticipation, HBO has officially unveiled the principal cast for its upcoming Harry Potter reboot series, igniting excitement across the wizarding world. With a commitment to faithfulness to J.K. Rowling’s original books, the series is set to span seven seasons, one for each novel, and introduce a fresh generation of actors embodying the beloved characters.

 The New Golden Trio

Dominic McLaughlin steps into the iconic role of Harry Potter. The young Scottish actor was chosen from thousands of hopefuls and has already captured attention with his uncanny resemblance to the Boy Who Lived.

Arabella Stanton will portray Hermione Granger, bringing both her stage experience and sharp intellect to the role of Hogwarts' brightest witch.

Alastair Stout joins as Ron Weasley, completing the trio with charm and warmth that echoes the beloved character’s loyalty.

 Professors and Staff

John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore: A legendary actor brings gravitas and wisdom to Hogwarts’ beloved headmaster.

Janet McTeer takes on the role of Minerva McGonagall, expected to deliver a firm but fair presence.

Paapa Essiedu has been cast as Severus Snape, a role requiring depth and nuance, which Essiedu is well-equipped to offer.

Nick Frost will portray Rubeus Hagrid, the warm-hearted half-giant gamekeeper.

Luke Thallon is set to play Professor Quirrell, who holds a dark secret.

Paul Whitehouse will appear as the cantankerous caretaker Argus Filch.

 Wizarding Families

Katherine Parkinson joins as Molly Weasley, bringing maternal warmth and magic.

Johnny Flynn will play Lucius Malfoy, with Lox Pratt as his son Draco Malfoy.

Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby will appear as Petunia and Vernon Dursley, Harry’s harsh Muggle relatives.

Bertie Carvel joins as Cornelius Fudge, Minister for Magic.

 Supporting Students

The first season will also introduce student characters such as Seamus Finnigan (Leo Earley), Parvati Patil (Alessia Leoni), and Lavender Brown (Sienna Moosah), giving a broader view of Hogwarts student life.

Behind the Magic

The series is written and executive-produced by Francesca Gardiner (Succession, His Dark Materials), with direction led by Mark Mylod.

J.K. Rowling remains involved as an executive producer, ensuring the series remains faithful to the source material.

Production began in mid-2025 at Leavesden Studios, with an expected premiere on HBO and Max between 2026 and 2027.

A New Era for the Wizarding World

Unlike the original films, which condensed the books into two-hour experiences, HBO promises a more in-depth exploration of each book’s plot and characters across full seasons. Fans can expect new story layers, more screen time for side characters, and updated visuals supported by today’s special effects.

As filming gets underway, excitement continues to grow for this new take on the magic that defined a generation. HBO's Harry Potter series may well usher in a new era of fandom, while honoring the legacy of the originals.
