Celebrity chef and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives star Guy Fieri revealed he suffered a serious injury on the set of his new show Flavor Town Food Fight. The accident has left him temporarily in a wheelchair and undergoing emergency surgery.
The Accident
Fieri explained that the injury occurred when he slipped on a set of steps during filming. One foot went forward while the other got caught, causing a catastrophic tear in his quadriceps muscle. According to Fieri, the muscle “exploded” in the middle, rather than at the tendon or bone — a rare and severe injury according to his doctor.
“You normally tear that muscle at your tendon or the tendon tears off the bone, but this was right in the center of the whole quad muscle — and it exploded,” Fieri shared.
Medical Response and Recovery
Fieri was rushed into emergency surgery to repair the damage and prevent further complications. He is now using a wheelchair and crutches and has been instructed to stay off his leg for approximately eight weeks.
Medical professionals described this type of injury as extremely rare. One doctor noted he had not seen a quad rupture like this in over 20 years.
Impact on Filming
The injury disrupted production on Flavor Town Food Fight, a show involving a large crew. Alternative filming methods and creative adaptations have been implemented to accommodate Fieri’s limited mobility.
Fieri’s Statement
Fieri described the moment of the injury candidly:
“I looked like I was probably doing the splits,” he said. “Yeah, it sucked.”
He also noted that his upcoming Thanksgiving plans will be affected, with his sons and nephew stepping in to handle the cooking while he “quarterbacks from the wheelchair.”
Outlook
Short-term: Limited mobility for 6–8 weeks with reliance on a wheelchair and crutches.
Long-term: Full recovery depends on rehabilitation; return to high-energy work is uncertain. The incident has sparked conversation about on-set safety and the risks even during routine tasks like walking on set stairs.
Despite the severity, Fieri expressed determination to recover and return to his work, emphasizing his positive attitude.
